Renewable Energy And Climate Change
Up-scaling the production and consumption of bio-energy to reduce carbon emissions and enhance local employment in Nepal

The project is designed to contribute to the national goal of poverty reduction
through up-scaling the production and industrial consumption of charcoal, a solid renewable fuel, thereby reducing carbon emission and generating 10,500 green jobs at the local level. This project is conducting through the collaboration of Helvetas Nepal, IUCN, STARIC/N, ANSAB and Winrock Internationals.

Conduction of Demonstration Workshop on Replacement of Coal/Petroleum fuel with Densified Biomass Briquette and Charred Biomass Fuel in Brick Kilns

The project aims to demonstrate replacement of coal with locally produced charcoal and densified briquette for firing bricks in a brick kiln.

The project aims to assess the technical, environmetal, social and financial feasibility of a proposed 2700 m3 CSTR biogas plant. Biogas will be purified and converted into CNG and bottling.

Feasibility Study for Waste to Energy Potential in Vyas Municipality Tanahun

This project aims to determine the biogas potential from organic waste of Vyas Municipality. Waste management in urban centers of Nepal has become an issue that requires imminent attention. Production of biogas from organic municipal waste can assist in waste stabilization as well as to mitigate the ever growing demand for energy in Nepal.

Bio energy project

This project (www.bioenergy.org.np) aims to contribute to national goal of poverty reduction through up-scaling the production and industrial consumption of bio-energy, thereby increasing employment and reducing carbon emissions.
The specific objectives are to:

  • Create more green jobs through up-scaling Small Sized Charcoal Enterprises
  • Reduce carbon emission through diversifying the production and use of bio energy as an alternative to imported fossil fuels(LPG, kerosene and coal)
  • Sustain the production and supply chain of bio energy and strengthen capacities of actors of charcoal sub-sector while at the same time enhancing natural condition.

Promotion of improved cooking stoves (ICS) in households of brick kiln workers residing in the kiln premises
The project promoted ICS to improve kitchen environment of the workers residing in brick kiln premises. Generated baseline data on socio economic and demographic details of the workers, indoor air pollution, health status and fuel wood consumption pattern in brick kilns.

The project conducted rapid assessment of available forest waste and potential for enterprises based on it so as to ascertain the possibilities of setting up ICR to meet the industrial demand of char in brick kilns.

Forest Waste to Energy-Bridging the Gap between Industrial Energy Demand and NTFP Char Supply
The project aims at applying char as an alternative fuel for firing bricks in fixed chimney Zig-Zag technology. It involves activities such as production and demonstration of char as fuel for brick kilns, empowering members of local Community Forest Users Group in production of bio-char and build capacity of brick kilns to use bio-char as fuel.
